How to get the most traffic to your site is something that you MUST know.

It’s the only way to make the suffering end. Yes, I said suffering.

I’m not psychic, but I think I’m reading your mind. In fact, I know I am.

You feel like you’re wasting your time, right? – because no one knows you exist – and all your work has been for nothing.

You bang away on that keyboard, day after day (and night after night), creating content that the world doesn’t notice.

WTF, right?

The reason: Search engines are maps, telling people where to go to find what they’re looking for.

If you have no SEO (Search Engine Optimization) knowledge or skills, guess what? Your site isn’t on the map.

Keep reading for some quality advice and let’s FIX that right now.

It’s going to help you, I promise!

First, Do No Harm

That starts with your headline – i.e. the title of your post.

NOTHING is more important.

If no one clicks on it, no one reads your content!

It must satisfy search intent (for your target audience) and it must make a powerful promise. By the way, the rest of your post needs to deliver on that promise.

Don’t make it too long either. If you do, Google will truncate it – and that will ruin your headline.

There’s a free tool you can use to make sure that this doesn’t happen.

It’s called the Google SERP Snippet tool, and it’s a MUST.

Also, your headline could be badly written. In that case, it has the same effect – i.e. NOTHING happens!

Learn how to write headlines properly.

Your Introduction is the Second Headline

Your opening is CRUCIAL.

It’s your second headline. In fact, your Key Words (in this case, ‘How to get the most traffic to your site’) needs to be in the first sentence.

As any storyteller will tell you, you must hook them immediately!

When people click on a link, they expect to be disappointed – and they’re
ready to click away in a microsecond.

When they do, it’s called ‘pogo-sticking’. They hop away from your content in a flash!

Now, they’re gone. Google doesn’t like that.

How long people stay on your content is measured by search engines like Google.

So, How Do You Make Visitors Stick Around?

Make it easy to read!

People don’t read posts anyway, they scan them. Walls of text drive people away FAST.

So, use short paragraphs. 1-3 sentences each is fine. Bold, italics and bullet points work well too.

Also, get rid of big, fancy words.

It’s all about appearance. Keep it simple and avoid unnecessary verbiage and useless fluff.

Another trick is to spread quotes, call-out boxes, and images (even advertising banners) throughout your post to break things up even more and add visual interest.

These days, to keep people on the page, it’s recommended to have some kind of image every 200 to 250 words.

Remember: your reader WANTS to bounce away and leave. KEEP them there!

The final tip for keeping people reading is to make your post all about them. Readers need to feel they are the center of attention and a very practical way to do that is to use the word “you” as often as you can.

What Else Will Keep Visitors on The Page?

Answer their question: “Why should I give a damn?

And do it early.

People click on a website to get something they need (usually information or something to buy), and they are ready to click away like lightning.

Remember what I said about that powerful promise in your headline? You must start delivering on that immediately!

It all comes back to your content. If you’re just re-shuffling stuff they already know (or you’ve got AI doing that for you), then you’ve lost them – and they’ll probably never come back.

Why would they?

Pro Tip: Show them something they haven’t seen before!

How Important are Backlinks for SEO?

In a word: VERY

What is a backlink? It’s someone else’s site pointing to yours, in a positive way.

In other words, it’s a clickable link on someone else’s site that directs their reader to your site!

Why Would Someone Do That?

1) You asked them to. There are a variety of ways to pull this off, but the act of doing it is called a ‘pitch’ – as in a sales pitch.

Basically, your pitch explains how their readers could benefit by visiting your site. Often the pitch contains an offer for a reciprocal link to their site as well.

I could write an entire blog post about this topic alone.

2) You write a guest post for their site.

This is labor intensive, but link-building involves a LOT of work anyway. In fact, link-building might be more time-consuming than adding content to your site!

It works like this: you write a quality piece of on-topic content for their site (for free).

In exchange, you ask for a short byline at the end (or beginning) of the post. The byline contains one or two short sentences about you, a small photo and a link to your site.

3) They just like your content, or a particular post. This happens.

That is why it is vital to post only high-quality content that readers find valuable. This is the type of stuff that others will link to.

This is especially true if you include interesting resources, videos, and/or infographics.

A variation would be a unique personal story, a case study or an interview with someone important in your industry. These work well!

4) You hired someone to make that happen.

There are SEO professionals out there who will build backlinks for you.

They can also do all sorts of other things to increase your site’s authority and Google ranking.

These people are experts, they have tons of proprietary knowledge, and they work very hard.

Needless to say, they are NOT inexpensive. For these types of services, expect to pay a minimum of $500 monthly.

Remember, All Backlinks Are Not Created Equal

There are true SEO services out there, plus a lot of frauds.

Know the difference and shop carefully before handing over your cash.

For example, there are backlink mills that promise 1000’s of backlinks for a few bucks. The problem is that these links come from junk sites that exist only to provide backlinks.

They’re worthless. In fact, they’re worse than worthless because Google sees them for what they are and lowers your Domain Authority as a result. That’s BAD.

Are There Any FREE SEO Tools Available?

Yes, and much of its provided by Google.

I’ve already mentioned the Google SERP Snippet tool.

Beyond that, there is the Google Ads Keyword Planner. This thing is invaluable.

I’m not talking about buying Google Ads. That costs money, but the Planner is free.

It will help you choose trending keywords for the post title, and to base your content on.

Choosing the right keywords is CRITICAL for SEO!

Use the Planner as if you were going to buy an ad. Type in keywords like ‘self-defense’, ‘dachshund puppies’ or ‘flight school’ – whatever your blog niche is. You will get all kinds of suggestions for using those words in your ad (or words like them).

Those suggestions are what people have been searching for using those (or similar) words in their search.

Google even has prices for using them in your ad. The higher the price, the more people are searching for those words and phrases.

Use those keywords for the blog headline and content.

Google Knows What People Are Searching For

Tap into that knowledge!

Another great free tool is Google Trends, and it is what it says.

It tells you what the top searches on Google are and what’s trending up or down.

The site has plenty of ways to use it and its great for fresh content ideas.

For more advanced users, Google Search Console will help analyze your site.

It’s basically an SEO review. There’s a lot going on here, and thus a learning curve.

Still, for a free service, the value is incredible.

Are You Ready for More Traffic to Your Site?

How to get the most traffic to your site (what SEO experts say), is essential to understand.

Trust me, I know what it’s like NOT to understand it!

I feel your pain, because it can be a real toothache.

Nonetheless, it’s a skill set that you must master – at least on some level. The only way to do that is to dive in and get started.

The more you learn about the entire process the more confidence you’ll have.

Having more confidence mean that you’ll be more productive and start seeing some money!

That’s the whole point, right?

Don’t wait another day to get started. Time passes quickly and it’s later than you think.
